We often deal with chips in the Modus Digital office, generally of the silicon variety, and of course we deal with social media every day, but it’s not every day we see the two combined. At first it looked like an April Fool’s joke, but April’s still weeks away, and while it could all be clever marketing stunt, the word over at The Grocer is that global food manufacturer Birds Eye is about to launch a new range of frozen potato snacks called Mashtags – little chunks of potato chopped up into @, # and * symbols.
The really clever part of this that these are little more than a slight modification of Alphabites, but by capturing the zeitgeist and freezing it in a little red bag of social media symbols, Birds Eye is probably going to make a handsome sum. Like most of the best ideas and inventions, it seems so obvious in hindsight, and the free publicity this has already attracted for Birds Eye is remarkable.
